Listening & Obedience
And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses.
Joshua was already seen as Israel’s leader. In chapter 1 the men answered him, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as He was with Moses” (Joshua 1:16-17).God was about to do this very thing – show the people of Israel that He was with Joshua just as He was with Moses. Through this miracle in chapter 3 God would exalt Joshua in the eyes of the people. It is God who exalts a man, not the man himself. God told Joshua that He would do it. What was Joshua’s responsibility? More than just receive it, he was to listen to God and speak to the people what he was told.Listening. Obedience. These are vital characteristics of any man who would aspire to lead God’s people. People must know that their leader has heard from God and is doing what He has said. God will exalt a person, but not without their listening and obedience.
Father, continue to lead me where You want me to lead others. My family… my church… they need to know that I am listening and obeying You. Lead me this day is my prayer.
