“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2 Timothy 1:9-10)
The grace of God was given to me before the beginning of time. I did not think up the idea of God’s grace and certainly did not ask for it. It was established in eternity past when God decided to create and love people, He knew we would need a Savior. This is why the grace was given to us ‘in Christ Jesus.’ That’s where the grace is found. It has nothing to do with anything I have done, whether good or bad. By God’s purposes and grace He has saved me and called me to a holy life. This is a ‘called out,’ special life. I am to be different because I am saved. The holy life that I am given is part of the ‘salvation package’ found in Christ. It’s not an add on or even a result of salvation. A holy life in Christ is salvation! I am saved from the common, sin-plagued, damning life of the flesh. The old corrupted life gives way to new life in the Spirit (Romans 8)! This saved life is not because of anything I have done, but because of God’s own purpose and grace.
Awesome God! No wonder we burst out in praise to You. Thank you for deciding to give new, holy and eternal life to us in Christ Jesus. I worship You today.
