My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words.
Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart;
for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.
Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.
The words of Scripture are life and health to those who find them. Your whole physical existence is better off as you ingest the words of God. His thoughts… His heart… these things change you and bring blessing.
In the verses immediately before this Solomon writes, “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” There is a tangible difference between those who receive God’s words and the grace given in the Gospel and those who refuse God. This is why we share the Gospel! People long for light, health and vitality. Often we love our chosen sin more than those things, but when we’re sane and thinking well, we’d choose health and spiritual vibrancy.
Sometimes I think about the person I’d be if I had not been shaped by God’s message of love and grace to me. I’m grateful for the new life found in Christ!
Lord God, I worship You today. I adore You… but only because You first loved me through the Gospel. It really is Good News! Thank you for the spiritual vibrancy I experience in You. Thank you for raising the spiritual dead to life in You! Awesome… awesome… awesome. I live for You today.
