The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there He revealed Himself to Samuel through His Word.
Samuel was recognized by all the people as a prophet of God (vs 20). Samuel spoke for God after hearing from God. This is what a prophet does. Future-casting is just a small part of what a prophet does. Speaking for God is more accurate a description. If God tells His prophet about future things, then the prophet can speak of the future. Samuel spoke for God, and God revealed Himself to Samuel through His Word.
Is it possible that any of us can serve as a prophet? God will continue to make Himself known through His Word. As we speak what we are learning from Him and instruct others, we are prophesying. There are those in the church who are given the gift of prophecy. They are blessed by the gift! Understanding and explaining to others about God comes easily. Even so, we all can speak of what we know as He reveals Himself to us through His Word. I want to speak clearly about God to everybody in my life. I long for people to know more about God through my life. If I am going to speak for God like this then I must know about Him. God continues to reveal Himself through His Word.
Reveal Yourself to us today, Father, through Your Word. As we read it, hear it, speak it to one another – may Your heart become more visible to us. Thank You for the grace to know and live for You today. Through Christ I pray.
