But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. Fro God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus died for us so that we could live for Him. He didn’t die so that we could suffer wrath, but escape it. God’s wrath is real and is directed against all things ungodly, but Jesus died that we could be saved from that wrath. This is God’s plan… He has appointed us to receive salvation through Christ. As a result, we belong to the day. We are not in darkness (vs. 4), we are sons of the light… sons of the day (vs. 5).
I believe in Jesus… I’ve placed my faith in Him and am trusting Him for salvation. I belong to the day. The day possesses me – I am a son of light. Because of this matter of fact, I am to be self-controlled – not out of control like those who don’t know God (2 Thessalonians 1:8). I can put on faith and love – not because I’m by nature faithful or loving, but because I belong to the day. It’s a matter of possession, not natural tendencies. Because of Jesus I am blessed with the supernatural – His life lived through me.
Lord, I do belong to You. Would You live out Your life through me. Thank You for the corrections of Your Spirit when I don’t live out who I am in You. I put on faith and love today as a breastplate… a breastplate to guard my heart. Thank You for this special relationship with You. I love You.
