Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. Luke 20:34-36
There is an age to come. There is more to life than just this life, possibly. Not everyone in this age will see the next age. Jesus said that the ones ‘considered worthy’ will take part in that age.
Jesus came to make unworthy people worthy through His own blood. He died to make unholy people holy, so it’s through Jesus that the next life is attained. It’s not achieved, but received by the grace of God to everyone who believes in Christ.
Jesus is the Door for the next life. It is an eternal life where we will be, as God’s children, like the angels. (We do not become angels as some mistakenly understand. We are like them. Eternal beings forever living in the Presence of Almighty God.)
The age to come changes how we live in this age. Jesus not only died to make me worthy, He rose and conquered my death. Jesus is the Door who turns death into a door that opens up to eternal life in God’s Presence. Those who take that door are children of the resurrection.
And no, there will be no marriage there.
Father, thank You for the hope I have in Jesus. Thank You for conquering my sin and my future death in Christ! You have done Great things and deserve all of my worship. I live for You today.
