Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.” Daniel 3:4-6
What if every idol the world sets up for people to worship also came with a blazing consequence if you didn’t?
There are consequences for idol worship. They kill, steal and destroy life with God. The consequences are not as immediate as Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego’s fiery furnace. Out of hundreds of thousands these three chose the furnace over worshiping an idol.
This is an epic account in Daniel 3 and worth reading. It’s relevant today as ever since the 90 foot tall gold idols are still around. Will we go against the flow of culture and worship Jesus regardless of the consequences?
Interestingly, there are consequences if you do or if you don’t. Maybe it comes down to choosing your consequences.
Father, life with You is the most important part of my existence. Thank You for creating me and re-creating me in Jesus. I choose all the consequences, whether good or bad, of belonging to You. You are awesome and worthy of all things!
