Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in whose spirit is no deceit. Psalm 32:1-2
The 32nd Psalm is significant! It is short, but the progression of thought is powerful. From blessing to correction to worship… it’s amazing.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin. Psalm 32:3-5
Sin is a reality for everyone… for me. What do you do with sin. David writes that the blessed people are those whose sins are forgiven. Unforgiven sin is a heavy weight. It will ‘sap your strength as in the heat of summer. The way to move from pathetic to blessing is to not hide from God. When I acknowledge my sin to God in repentance and do not cover it up, He forgives sin and the heavy guilt that comes with it. Awesome!
So, verse 6, let all the people pray to the Lord. There is healing, love and forgiveness found in Him.
Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. Many are the woes of the wicked, but the Lord’s unfailing love surrounds the one who trusts in him. Psalm 32:9-10
Our “muleness” is evidence of our sinfulness. With such good things available from our Heavenly Father, why would anyone be stubborn in their sin? The lack of humility and submission to our holy and gracious God is sin. Acknowledge it and be forgiven! Pray repentance on your own because God’s provided this pathway for you. Avoid the bit placed in your mouth. God’s going to win this one (and every one!), so don’t be a mule.
Rejoice in the Lord and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart! Psalm 32:11
Father, the Psalm ends with worship and rejoicing because of your graciousness to us. In Jesus You have removed my sin and given me His righteousness. My cleansed heart is now upright in Your sight and so I SING and am glad! Your are awesome and I worship You today.
