29 (All the people, even the tax collectors, when they heard Jesus’ words, acknowledged that God’s way was right, because they had been baptized by John. 30 But the Pharisees and experts in the law rejected God’s purpose for themselves…
35 But wisdom is proved right by all her children.”
God’s way was communicated in Jesus’ words. Those who heard Him speak clearly understood this… well, part of them. The religious leaders (part of them) rejected Jesus, they rejected His words and in doing so they turned away from God’s purpose for themselves. This same choice is being made by people today. Jesus is either embraced or He is rejected. His words are either elevated to the words of life and salvation that they are, or they are dismissed as ideas quite possibly created by those who followed Him in the first century. Either rejected or embraced – that’s the choice. Some these days are trying a third choice. They recognize the powerful influence of Jesus and they want to include His words in their collection of spiritual writings, but they do not embrace Him as the Savior… they do not acknowledge Him as the Lord of all creation. This choice is rejecting God’s purpose for their life just as much as the other. Amazingly, human beings can reject God’s purpose for their life. People can frustrate God’s will and God’s way – we do it all the time. This might just make the embracing of Jesus and His words that much more sweet for those who do. We are not forced to… but we must for He is the King of kinds and the Lord of lords!
I embrace in full today the words of Jesus as God’s revealed purpose of my life.
Lord, thank You for teaching me through Your words and life the will of the Father. Help me not to reject any part of Your teaching. I want to submit in ever way to it and I want to realize Your purpose for my life. Your grace is amazing… You are worthy of all I have and I love You.
