If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness! For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory. (2 Corinthians 3:9-10)
The church in Corinth had been going through a lot. A lot of controversy. A lot of confusion. Paul was their spiritual father, having planted the church in Corinth, but there was doubt cast over Paul and his place in their lives. This doubting of him and his intentions are skewed enough for Paul to ask if he should provide a letter of recommendation. This is kind of funny, really.
Paul points out some beautiful truth at this point. The evidence of his ministry and of their legitimacy in Christ is the Presence and activity of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Paul compares the glorious old covenant to the more glorious new covenant found in the blood of Jesus… and there ‘s no comparison! (vs 10) The glory of the new is so awesome that the old seemingly has no glory, comparatively speaking.
The reality of the Kingdom of Heaven in my life and in our church can be confirmed by the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit. As I am being changed into the image of Jesus… and as His character and qualities are increasingly evident in my life, that’s all the glorious evidence that is needed! As His fruit is growing in my life (Galatians 5:22-25), I can be sure of the freedom that I have in Jesus. ‘For where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom’. (2 Corinthians 3:17)
Thank you, Holy Spirit, for dwelling with me and all of Your people everyday. Thank you for Your power and Presence which makes all the difference and confirms that I am redeemed and adopted into Your family. Show Yourself powerful in my life today as I yield to You and Your leading.
