He has granted us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins.
The Hebrew nation was sent away into exile, banished from their land that was promised by God. They were punished in this way because of their sin. Even so, God’s grace was on display. As the warnings of exile came so did the promise of a remnant returning. Ezra was one of the leaders of this remnant, returning to Jerusalem. God’s grace was also in the duration. The discipline was only 70 years. IN this passage the remnant had sinned. They had forgotten or considered a small thing God’s grace. That’s human nature, I suppose. People are like that. We forget what God has done by His grace… and we sin against Him.
