Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.
What a prayer of humility and complete trust in God! For David to pray “search me” he was both humble and courageous. David was also honest to God enough to say “know my anxious thoughts.” They are there. I have them! And then more humility to ask God to lead him out of any offensive way and into God’s everlasting way.
This is also a prayer filled with hope. There is hope that God would do it and that David would be better because of it.
