“Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth
and thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the LORD rises upon you
and his glory appears over you.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
How beautiful is the Scripture? Reading John 1 is so reassuring to me. Jesus is the Eternal Word of God. He has come and He brings Light to this dark place.
The darkness doesn’t understand Him, but that has no affect on the Light. The Light is consistent, never flickering. The confusion of the darkness does not influence the Light – He just continues to shine in this place that He made (vs. 10)… this place that He loves.
In the Presence of Light the darkness flees. It scampers off into the corners, looking for places to hide. The darkness is powerless in the Presence of Light. The darkness cannot raise it’s defiant head and push back the Light. The Light doesn’t hardly know that the darkness is around. Light is consistently triumphant over darkness with no effort whatsoever.
When the Apostle John recorded what he saw in Heaven (Book of Revelation), he notes that there is no longer a sun or moon any longer because the Lord God Himself provides the Light. In that place when the Light’s Presence will be eternally with His people, there will be no darkness! What a day that will be!
Lord Jesus – You are the Light of the world. Your Presence scatters the darkness each and every time! Be Present in my life this day…
