Father – thank You for being gracious to me! Your love is amazing and unfathomable! Live Your life through me today. May what I do and say today be gracious and may my life point others to you! You want me to love You with all of my heart and soul. I do!
“…and he says, “Let us follow other gods” (gods you have not known) “and let us worship them,” 3 you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. 4 It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.”
“6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. “
People pervert God’s good thing. We sin, we lie, we’re selfish. It’s been like this since the Garden! God’s good thing is Good News and is almost too good to be true! Some people add to or change the good thing for any number of reasons. “It can’t be that simple… God must demand more from us… we must work for it more than indicated…” Whatever the reason, the Good News is perverted. Those who pervert the Good News also want others to understand and agree with them. Paul noted how quickly we are apt to follow those who are promoting a different gospel. How am I tempted to add to or change the Good News? Do I expect more from people that God does? Does the grace of Christ flow out of my life into the lives of others?
