It was the day of Preparation of Passover Week, about the sixth hour.
“Here is your king,” Pilate said to the Jews.
But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”
“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.
“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
The Jews despised the Romans and hated being under the rule of Caesar, and yet they chose him over Jesus. “We have no king but Caesar.” Even God is eliminated from the possibility… Caesar is king.
Do my words or actions ever deny Christ? Do I choose someone else to be king? There are others who would aspire to the position, but none that are worthy. Only Jesus is King.
Lord, I thank You for finishing the work on the cross. Your blood has set me free and I am forgiven! I reaffirm Your Kingship over the universe and over my life this day.
