You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the saints. I urge you, brothers, to submit to such as these and to everyone who joins in the work, and labors at it.
Paul urges the church to submit to those who are devoted to serving. Biblical leadership is servant-leadership. Unless a person is serving other people they ought not to be submitted to. Positional leadership (with others serving the leader only) is imploded.
If I want people to follow my lead then I must be a servant. Ministry is service. To be a leader in ministry would mean being the first to serve. The church will follow its servant leaders. They’ll want to!
Foster the servant’s heart in me, Lord. Give me the humility to serve and the grace to endure when I’m treated like a servant. Thank You for being the greatest Servant-Leader of all time. I follow You.
