While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.
The parable of the Ten Minas is all about Jesus. He is the One of noble birth. He is the One who is going away to be anointed King. He is the One that will return… and all of His enemies will be brought before Him and killed. He is the One who has servants in the meantime. Jesus told this parable because the people thought the Kingdom of God was going to ‘appear at once’ in all its fullness. Through this parable Jesus explained what would actually be. The Kingdom was near because He was near, but it wasn’t arriving right away. Jesus was going away and would return as the victorious King.
This is the time we live in now. King Jesus is coming soon and all His enemies will be eliminated forever. There will be no rival to Him. It is right now that Jesus has servants whom He has entrusted with resources. We have been given gifts, abilities and money that is directly from Christ. We are to use these things to multiply His Kingdom – which is not about stuff but people. We use stuff to win over the true treasure in God’s eyes – people!
There is the expectation of growth and increase for Christ’s servants. If we’re scared like the one servant (Luke 19:20-22) and do nothing, there will be judgment and what we’ve been given will be handed to another. If we do serve and are faithful, there is great joy in His Presence!
Jesus will be honored as King.
King Jesus, I live for You this day. Use my life to multiply Your Kingdom. What you’ve blessed me with I use for Your purposes, so do Your work through me today.
