Jesus answered,”‘It is written, ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 8:3 here. Moses was encouraging the Israelites not to forget the Lord. By remembering the manna that God provided, which taught them this truth, they would continue to be awed by God. God gives us His Word to live on. Satan tempted Jesus with physical hunger and his ability to turn stones into bread. Jesus knew the truth – God His Father is all that is needed. God provides His Word to live on… He’ll also provide the physical bread that He knows that we need – but it is never to take the priority of Him. To sin against God for physical bread is unthinkable to Jesus.
Whenever I am tempted to sacrifice my obedience to God and His Word for physical bread, I need to remember how unthinkable that is! Whatever I need in the physical God will provide. If He doesn’t provide it, I must not need it. What I do need is my relationship with Him. Continually and growing!
Thank You, Father for the nourishment of Your Word! Thank You that I can feed on it everyday. I am grateful that You know my needs and have promised to provide. As I think about all You have already provided for me and my family – I am awed by you. Thank You for such gifts from Your hand. Thank You most for Your Word and for Your living Word, Jesus. I love You and live for You today.
