So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12)
Paul is teaching the church not to ‘look down’ or judge their brothers here in Romans 14. Verse 12 is the ultimate reason why – everybody will stand before Christ. That person will stand before Jesus and given an account for his life and actions. He doesn’t need to stand before me today! That’s not my job. I am not the ‘righteous police.’ To my brothers I am to be an encourager. I will hold them accountable, but that’s different than being the Judge who judges. I am their brother.
What motivation do I have to not be the Judge? One day I will stand before Jesus and will given an account of my life. I don’t want Him to ask, “And who made you Judge?”
Lord Jesus, I stand in Your grace today… and tomorrow. Forever! That’s the only place I can be when I give You the accounting of my life. Thank You that I can live for You this day!
