“As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
Jesus explains His parable the the weeds. Throughout all of Matthew 13 Jesus is teaching parables about the Kingdom of Heaven. We understand the parable of the weeds pretty well when we read it but the further explanation a few verses later makes it crystal clear. There is a day of judgment coming. Until then things that cause sin and people who do evil will continue to grow and be intertwined with those who are of Christ.
Sometimes I think it ought not to be this way. Sometimes I think that people ought to know better and do better. Sometimes I’m surprised when I am tempted to sin… and do sin. Jesus taught differently and it should change my thinking. Until the day that Jesus makes all things new and right, it will be this way. There will be all kinds of things that cause people to sin. People who do evil do not know better and they will not do any better, apart from the grace of God in their lives. I am a person who has been transferred over from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light and although this is true, I continue in this world that is in rebellion against God. My flesh gravitates toward this evil, which is why the ‘old man’ is put on the altar everyday. I live out the words of Paul
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The other thing I sometimes do is to correct and bring judgment against those who cause evil in the lives of others. While I have the privilege of teaching the Good News of God’s love and grace, it is NOT my job to pull out the weeds. There’s a day coming when Jesus will send His angels to do that job. My job is to love people to faith in Christ.
Thank You, Lord, that You are well in charge. Thank You for saving people like me from their sin and rebellion. You are worthy to be lived for and I do this day. Give me eyes to see those in my life who need to be loved into Your Kingdom.
