“Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed Him gladly.
This invitation was astounding! Jesus was inviting Himself to Zacchaeus’ house. Imagine God’s Son making that kind of invitation to us! Actually, He does. To each and every person Jesus want to come and visit… to spend time at their house, just like He did at Zacchaeus’ house. You see, it’s not the incredible invitation that is so rare – because Jesus makes it to everyone – it’s Zacchaeus’ response that is so uncommon. Most people do not hurry down and welcome Jesus gladly. The invitation of Christ often goes not responded to. Part of the dynamic for Zacchaeus was that he was looking for Jesus. He wanted to see Him. He wanted to hear Him… to the point of climbing a tree! This would not be the most respectable thing that a rich, middle-aged Jewish man could do! But he wanted to see Jesus, so that didn’t matter. Zacchaeus’ desire to see Jesus made his response to Jesus’ invitation. Many people receive the invitation and don’t respond to it because they’re not looking for it or they don’t desire it. The invitation falls on a deaf heart.
I want Jesus at my house! I want to sit at His feet and hear His voice. I want to be molded into His image.
Please be welcomed here, Lord Jesus! Teach us Your life lessons so that we can experience the abundant life that You came to bring us. Thank You for Your great love. I love you.
