When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
I am never beyond the trap of pride. I may preach the Gospel for 50 years but still fall in its trap. In fact, I may be more susceptible to pride as the years go by. In the early years of ministry when I don’t know much, I eagerly lean into those who have much experience because I have so little. Later on in life when I am the one with all the experience and there is no one left who is older or wiser or has more ministry experience – that is when pride may come. If I allow pride to take root in my heart now or then, disgrace is what I can expect. God provides the antidote! With humility comes wisdom. He also has given Christ Jesus as the prime example. Jesus is the most amazing of role models! Consider the humility of the Son of God! What is more, Jesus has given me His Holy Spirit to dwell in my heart and to teach me His ways. His ways include humility… and with humility comes wisdom.
Lord Jesus – I will never out live you! My experience in ministry will never go beyond what you know and what you can teach me. I will look to You my whole life for wisdom and understanding. I ask for your help as I try to bring glory to Your Name. I will listen more than I talk and I will thank You each time I hear Your voice through the life of another. What wonderful gifts you give to those who follow You! It’s my joy to give You my life. Use me!
